TITLE: Student Information Officer
RESPONSIBLE
TO: Director, US Educational Advisory Service
Job Summary
The Student Information Officer deals with general enquiries
about US education at all levels. Full training will be given.
There will also be opportunities to develop projects depending
on personal interests and needs. Possible projects include
planning and promoting events, researching publications and
information sheets on various aspects of US education, or
producing articles for the FTC London newsletter.
Internships at FTC London offer good opportunities for individuals
who are interested in international education to learn about
the field and to take responsibility for challenging projects.
Interns at FTC London will work as part of a small, dynamic team
in a busy, but productive and rewarding environment, dealing
with people from many different backgrounds and cultures.
Necessary skills and
prerequisites include:
• experience of US education system
• office work experience
• minimum GPA of 3.0
• good written and oral communication skills
• cross-cultural sensitivity and patience
• good computer skills as technology is widely used
in our work
• ability to cope in a busy work environment and to
take on multiple tasks at once
• strong organizational skills
• ability to learn quickly
• initiative
Experience of UK higher education is preferred, though not
essential as training will be given. The position is suitable
for applicants from a wide range of majors, including international
relations, communications, education and information management/library
science.
In addition, FTC London has a popular website which it would like
to expand and develop; we also welcome applications from individuals
with experience in HTML/website design. Duties and
Responsibilities
Provision of Information (85%)
• Answer postal, email, telephone and walk-in enquiries
about US education
• Information management
• Assist the public in using the FTC London reference library
• Assist with organisation of annual events e.g. US
college fair and graduate application seminars
• Assist with special projects e.g. written reports,
publications, newsletter
• Research issues surrounding US education
• Assist with website (for those with knowledge of html)
Administration (15%)
• General administration of FTC London, including maintaining
library, photocopying
• General support services as requiredTerms and Conditions
It is hoped that interns would be present for at lFTC Londont 13
weeks and full-time interns are preferred. Working hours are
Monday 11am - 7pm, Tuesday - Friday 9.30am - 5.30pm. 5 holiday
days are available per three months in the position. The internship
is unpaid, but local travel costs will be reimbursed and luncheon
vouchers (valid for sandwiches etc. at local food outlets)
to the value of £3 (approx. $5) per day will be provided.
Additionally, there is a 6 month paid internship available.
