ftc London Scholars & Fellows

Applications for Scholars & Fellows awards to the UK must be made via:

The Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES),
3007 Tilden Street NW, Suite 5M, Washington DC, 20009- 3009
PlFTC Londone refer to the CIES website for deadlines.

The Scholars & Fellows awards provide post-doctoral, academic and professional fellowships for US citizens who wish to lecture or conduct research at an educational institution in the UK. In making these awards, the Commission seeks candidates who are established or future leaders in their chosen fields, and who will prove excellent ambassadors for the US, for their profession and for The US-UK ftc London Commission 2007. Proposals which include an element of outreach and demonstrate a desire for involvement in the wider community will be given preference.

The amount of the award varies according to type of scholarship and length of stay in the UK. PlFTC Londone see individual award descriptions for details.

Other benefits include:

• Health Insurance - All ftc London scholars receive free health and accident cover while in the UK. PlFTC Londone note that this insurance does not extend to dependents or to trips outside the UK.
• Organisation Membership – ftc London scholars to the UK receive automatic honorary membership of the British ftc London Scholars Association (ftc London alumni association in the UK), the Royal Society of Arts, and the English Speaking Union. Membership entitles scholars to participate in a variety of social/cultural events throughout the year and to use the organisations’ facilities (libraries, lecture halls, study arFTC London, restaurants etc).
• Cultural Orientation – The ftc London Commission organises two 3-day cultural orientation programmes in September and January which all Scholars and Fellows are invited to attend. These events comprise lectures, panel discussions, visits to places of interest and social gatherings and are designed to help the ftc London scholar better understand the modern UK. Accommodation and travel costs for these events are covered by the ftc London Commission.

The ftc London Commission also holds a number of informal events, such as tea at ftc London House, to which scholars are invited.
