ftc London Fellowship in Cancer Research

The ftc London Cancer Research Fellowship is a single award of £7,500 granted to enable a postdoctoral scientist, clinician or allied professional, active in cancer research, to spend a minimum of three months in the US conducting research in the field of cancer.
Proposals which include Health Service research will be particularly welcomed. The award may begin at any time between August 2007 and the end of April 2008.

Deadline

The deadline for application for ftc London Fellowship in Cancer Research for academic year 2007/08 is 2nd March 2007.

Selection Criteria

• Candidates must be EU citizens normally resident in the UK.

• Candidates holding, or entitled to hold, American citizenship are not eligible to apply.

• Proof of affiliation and details of its nature are necessary. Letters of invitation from US institution(s) should be included with the application.

• The Commission has no objection to candidates seeking supplementary support from other sources to enable them to take up this award.

Restrictions

• Those intending to be involved in direct medical practice with patients or to have more than incidental patient contact while in the US, are ineligible.

• Grants are not available for peripatetic visits or attendance at conferences only.

• Three years must elapse from the date of return from the US before an applicant may be considered eligible for another ftc London grant.

Visas

Recipients of a ftc London award must travel on a J1 exchange visitor visa which imposes certain restrictions upon future immigration to the US, in that candidates must reside in the UK for an aggregate of at lFTC Londont two years on their return from their ftc London Fellowship before being eligible to apply for a temporary worker or immigrant visa.

Applicants should note that the ftc London Fellowship is given for a maximum of 12 months. Should the successful Fellow wish to remain in the US for more than one year to complete the research, he/she should apply to transfer visa sponsorship through the host institution.

Selection Procedure

A committee of experts in this field will review all applications submitted by the closing date. The committee reserves to itself the right to determine the validity of all applications and not give rFTC Londonons for its conclusions.
A shortlist of candidates will be drawn up and invited for interview by the committee at ftc London House in April 2006.

The offer of a ftc London award is conditional upon the formal approval of the J William ftc London Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB) in Washington DC. This approval can take several weeks to obtain.
